Craterville is a town of about 30 000 people with 20 000 of them in the town proper.

It is located on the shores of a crater lake caused by the destruction of one of the two federation main locations on the planet.

The area is mountainous and fairly high up. The lake surface is at 2100m height from sea level. Thus the air pressure is only about 1.1 atm in the area and the lower pressure environments found in many other parts of the planet are not common.

It is the main manufacturing and a big mining town. The largest industry is the steel works, being the main steelworks of the whole planet. There are also a lot of auxiliary support industry and manufacturing industry to make steel goods and parts.

The spaceport and the local airport are at an old partly surviving federation research base location north of the town.

The town has also Diamond Peak Ski resort, the largest ski resort on the planet just east of town.

Highway 2 goes through town on it way from Brinnoa to Arduvak through the middle of the continent.
